Overnight in Rub Al Khali

Departing Salalah, the journey leads through the Dhofar Mountains with sweeping views over the plains, stopping in Wadi Dawkah, home to naturally growing frankincense trees. Passing through Thumrait, the landscape gradually transforms into arid desert as you continue toward the legendary Lost City of Ubar, often referred to as the “Atlantis of the Sands.” After exploring the archaeological remains, the vehicles are prepared for off-road driving into the dunes of Al Khadaf. As evening falls, enjoy sunset views over the desert, followed by traditional coffee, dinner by a campfire, and a magical night under a star-filled sky, accompanied by captivating Bedouin stories.

Today is dedicated to discovering the vast beauty of the Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter), the largest continuous sand desert in the world. Driving toward Hashman, you may encounter Bedouin families and their black camels, while admiring towering dunes shimmering in countless shades of gold. Venture deeper into the desert to Burkanah-1, a remote desert oasis with sulphur-rich water, where swimming may be possible. A picnic lunch is enjoyed beneath desert trees before continuing through spectacular dune landscapes, including dunes rising up to 200 meters. A sunset walk across the dunes offers a profound sense of scale and silence before returning to camp or enjoying wild camping in the Hashman area.

After breakfast in the desert, leave the Empty Quarter behind and journey back toward Salalah, passing Shasar en route. A short stop in the city allows time for lunch before continuing westward along the scenic coastline. Visit a secluded beach (swimming optional), followed by a stop at Mughsail Beach, famous for its dramatic scenery. Continue to Eftalquot Cliff for views of an abandoned ship resting among coastal rocks. The final drive winds through landscapes dotted with frankincense trees before arriving in Salalah.
